Knoff Group Presents: Our Favorite Art Galleries in Southwest Montana

There is no shortage of talented artists in Bozeman, Livingston, and Big Sky – as a result, there is an abundance of fantastic artwork for purchase in various subject matter and mediums. If you’re interested in owning a piece of local or regional artwork, there are a variety of fine art galleries in the area. Many also participate in art walks. Knoff Group Real Estate has compiled a short list of some of our favorite art galleries in southwest Montana.

In Bozeman

Featuring eclectic, contemporary art, Altitude Gallery is tucked into a tiny but welcoming storefront in downtown Bozeman. Featuring a unique selection ranging from paintings, photography, glass work, pottery, sculpture, three-dimensional art, and even jewelry. You’ll be blown away by the creative collection from talented local artists.

Located at 111 South Grand Avenue in downtown Bozeman, The Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture is a former school building turned community center. The Emerson offers a variety of art galleries with art for purchase, exhibit galleries, community events, art classes, dances – you name it. JW Heist isn’t billed an art gallery (it’s a fine dining steakhouse) but it also has incredible art available for purchase. William Peace of Peace Design has curated the restaurant’s art collection – filled with pieces from Montana Trails Gallery and Tierney Fine Art.

Located on Main Street in downtown Bozeman, Montana Trails Gallery is known for its historical and period collections – you can find rare works by Thomas Moran, Albert Bierstadt, as well as a robust sculptural catalog. Montana Trails is the largest gallery in the area where you can enjoy western, wildlife, sporting, and contemporary artwork all in one place.

Tierney Fine Art is a premier fine art dealer that specializes in historically important, American, western, and sporting art of the late 19th and 20th centuries. Located in downtown Bozeman, you can find work by famous artists such as Frank Benson, Gerard Curtis Delano, and Sydney Laurence. This gallery is not to miss!

Visions West Contemporary is a dynamic art gallery located right on Main Street in downtown Bozeman. The gallery focuses on art that illustrates the interplay between how individuals and society influence nature. You can also find pieces centered around animals, environmental issues, and the West.

In Livingston

Green Door Gallery is located above Wheatgrass Books in downtown Livingston. Paintings by local artists are typically featured, rotating e on a month-to-month basis. Green Door Gallery also participates in a variety of events – Art Walks during the summer, Art-on-Tap during Livingston’s Craft Beer Week in May, and many others.

Located in downtown Livingston, Medicine Bird gallery features wildlife and landscape photography. It’s a Gray Crane Studios Gallery and boasts the work of Gary Crandall, Tandy Miles Riddle, ThunderVoice Hat Co. and many more.

Livingston Center for Art and Culture is a local art center in downtown Livingston. The gallery hosts rotating exhibitions and holds art classes for children and adults. A permanent exhibit, “Made in Montana” that features local artists’ for-sale work. The Arts Center is a great place to bring the talented community of Paradise Valley together.

In Big Sky

Courtney Collins Fine Art gallery features the works of acclaimed Western artists – Kevin Red Star, Tom Gilleon, Ben Pease, David Yarrow, and many others. Located in Big Sky’s Town Center, you’ll find pieces with all different mediums – from photography to paintings to sculptures.
