The expansion of Jackrabbit road may be held up, thanks to one property owner

BOZEMAN –

The expansion of Jackrabbit Lane may be held up, thanks to one property owner. The Montana Department of Transportation was hoping to begin the project from Frank Rd just south of Belgrade down to Hulbert Rd near Four Corners this spring. The project calls for expanding this portion of Jackrabbit to five lanes. To do that the state purchased property all along the east side of Jackrabbit. One property has yet to sell.

The state wants to purchase about a tenth of an acre from the Jehovah’s Witnesses in front of it’s building on Jackrabbit. M.D.T. has offered the church a little more than $116,000 for the property, but the church has declined to sell. According to church leaders, the church will have to relocate it’s septic field if M.D.T. buys the land.

Friday 1-22-16 The state filed a lawsuit in Gallatin County District Court against the church asking a Judge to order that the state can take the property and determine a price for it.
