This is a process that has been going on for several years in Park County. The commission has revisited it numerous times and likely will again in the future.
Residents voice opposition to zoning proposal – Livingston Enterprise John Carrol 6/22/2022
Dozens of residents voiced opposition to enhanced zoning regulations in Park County on Tuesday.
Many residents physically showed up for the Park County Commission’s regular meeting at the City/County Complex. Others attended the meeting online.
Up for discussion was the commission’s draft of the Agricultural and Residential Preservation Zoning District and Regulations (formerly the Conflict Mitigation Zoning District) under Montana Code Annotated 76-2-201.
In May, the Commissioners unanimously voted to begin the official process required to establish the proposed zoning regulations in Park County.
But on Tuesday, at its first public meeting since May, residents passionately expressed opposition. Here are a sampling of quotes from Park County residents.
“This is a private property rights issue.”
“I’m against zoning in Park County.”
“This is being slammed down our throats.”
“The communications has been underwhelming.”
After public comments, Commissioner Berg said, “I’m really grateful for everybody’s passion and input. We have work to do.”
After hearing from the public, the commissioners voted unanimously to “discontinue the formal process” of adopting the Agricultural and Residential Preservation Zoning District and Regulations.
